Step 1 - Prep
For best practice, always check the care label (found in the left pocket) for special washing instructions.
To get started, empty all pockets and close all zippers. Fasten any buttons and straps, secure hook-and-loop fasteners at their widest setting, and release any drawcords. Shake away dust and dirt, then turn your garment inside out.
Step 2 - Detergent
The right detergent makes a big difference. We recommend using an eco-friendly liquid detergent for sports clothes.
CAUTION: Avoid powder detergents, bleach, stain removers, and fabric softener.
Step 3 - How to wash softshells
Machine wash cold (max 30°C/85°F) with normal cycle
Step 4 - How to dry softshells
Hang dry, away from direct sunlight. Do not tumble dry.
To reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR), place a cloth over your garment and iron it using a maximum temperature of 110°C.
Step 5 - Waterproofing
(only if your jacket is water repellent). If water is no longer beading off your jacket, even after re-activating the durable water repellent (DWR) with an iron, then it's time for a refresh. We recommend using an eco-friendly impregnation spray, commonly found at your local outdoor retailer.
Apply the spray outdoors, following the instructions on the bottle, with special focus on high-wear areas like the shoulders and upper back. Allow to set for 24 hours. To enhance water repellency, you can then iron your garment again at low heat as described in Step 4.
Tips
Less is more when it comes to washing your outdoor gear. Spot clean when possible, and reserve full washes for when they are really needed.
